BIOGRAPHY
Mara
Terzi begins as a ballet dancer.
In the year 1984 she obtains a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture
and moves to the Opera of Warsaw where she stays two years and gets a diploma
in 1986 under the guidance of Isabella Glowacka.
Although
she has a typical ballet training, the intensity and the expressive force
of Flamenco are what enchants Mara bringing her to Spain to specialize. She
goes into the subject of Flamenco thoroughly and refines her technique in
Andalusia, where she learns the original Gipsy styles and revises them in
the light of the experience lived in Poland thus creating a unique and original
style risen from the fusion of the colour and sensuality of the Flamenco of
the beginning and the choreographic perfection and refinement of classical
and modern dance. After standing out during her studies as a soloist, Mara
Terzi completes her formation close to important names of the international
Flamenco such as Antonio Canales, Javier De La Torre y Carmen Cortez.
In
the first ‘90s she is engaged as soloist in Juan Luis De Paula’s
“Bolero y Flamenco” and, after choosing the rhythm and the passion
of Andalusia as distinctive elements of her style, she decides to found her
own company, the “Mara Terzi Company”- consisting of about twenty
dancers- and with it she performs in the most important theatres in Milan
such as the Smeraldo Theatre (“Carmen Gitana” in 1990), the Carcano
Theatre (“Risvegli” in 1991) and the Lyric Theatre (“Eco
dell’Alma” in 1992), subsequently embarking on a long tour through
Italy with “Concerto Flamenco” between 1994 and 1995.
The
warhorse of the Company is “Carmen”, literary character that inspired
the most different versions of performances, that Mara Terzi interprets in
a very original tone by means of the fusion of the style and ardour of Flamenco
and the choreographic construction of modern ballet. And thanks to the combination
of Mérimée’s literary rigour with her great love for Spain
Mara Terzi gives to her performance a tangible sign of a new and enchanting
style that is able to fascinate completely the audience, aiming to the symbiosis
between the classical music and the original presence of guitars, accordions
and percussion instruments.

“Carmen” celebrates a moment of glorious achievement of Mara Terzi
Company, not only in Italy but also abroad, particularly in Japan, where the
company performs at the prestigious Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (temple of the Japanese
theatre) obtaining such an unexpected success that they have to repeat the
performances more and more times during the first tour in 1999 (originally
consisting of ten dates only) and to add a second tour of 15 dates in 2001.
Apart from being a high- level dancer and choreographer in the theatre, Mara
Terzi extends her experience also in the cinema- where she is called on the
set of Konchalovskij’s “The house of matti” (with the rock
star Brian Adams)- and in TV undertaking as author for Fabbri Editori a recording
of a successful collection of videos about different dances called “Let’s
dance”, launched both in Italy and in Europe and that has sold more
than 2.000.000 copies from its first edition up to now.
One of the most recent Mara Terzi’s undertakings is the Company’s
participation in the Riva del Garda “Musicalrivalfestival” inauguration
with the show “Carmen”- elaborated on the music of G. Bizet- accompanied
by a 70- member orchestra under the conduction of Isaac Karabtchevsky, the
same orchestra that will accompany the dancers in “Bolero” that
will close the festival on the 4th of August 2002.
Mara Terzi at the moment is living and working in Milan where she runs two
dance schools and personally teaches to a great number of students giving
them the opportunity to enter the professional world.
